MP: No deal is better than a bad deal

The EU negotiations are entering their endgame, but it is clear that major differences remain on fisheries, on the so-called ‘level playing field’ and on the governance of the arrangements, especially as regards the remit of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in the UK.

John said,

“So far the Prime Minister and Lord Frost have done well in the negotiations in not relenting on protecting British sovereignty. Brexit involves a clean break from the EU, otherwise we will be unable to capitalise on the benefits of leaving.”

“A good deal is still the most likely outcome. This will be of benefit to both sides. However, our sovereignty is paramount, and we can not have a myriad of internal matters decided by the ECJ or any other EU organisation.”

“No deal is better than a bad deal. As the negotiations near the end, the Prime Minister will be right not to make last-minute compromises he will later regret just to get a deal over the line. The EU does not have a trade deal with many countries, including the US, China, India and Australia. If required, we should embrace a similar trading relationship in order to safeguard our sovereignty – something the country will support.”
