MP says Government will protect customers from gambling harms
The Government is launching a review of the gambling laws, to ensure they are right for the digital age. Whilst millions gamble responsibly, the Gambling Act 2005 may no longer be sufficient to regulate an industry which has evolved quickly in recent years. This major and wide-ranging review of the gambling laws will examine how gambling has changed over the past 15 years, and will help ensure customer protection is at the heart of the regulations. The Government has also announced that the minimum age for playing the National Lottery will be raised from 16 to 18 from October 2021.
John said,
“I welcome this review into our gambling laws, which is in line with our manifesto commitment to continue to protect customers from the risks of gambling-related harm. Whilst many people gamble safely, some do not, and this review will do valuable work in identifying how regulations ought to be updated to reflect a changing industry.”
