MP says this will help identify asymptomatic infections

The Secretary of State for Education, Rt Hon Gavin Williamson MP, has announced that every secondary school and college in England, as well as special schools and alternative provision, will have access to rapid coronavirus testing from January. Following the success of pilot schemes, all staff in secondary schools and colleges will be eligible for weekly rapid tests. Pupils will be eligible for testing for seven days if they are identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive. Staff will also be eligible for daily testing if they are identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive. These tests will be rolled out to primary schools in due course.

John said,

“I welcome this positive development, which will help bear down on asymptomatic cases in our schools and thereby break chains of transmission. This testing should end the situation whereby up to a whole school bubble has to self-isolate if one student or staff member tests positive, as those in the same bubble do not need to self-isolate if they agree to be tested once a day. I look forward to this being rolled out in our local schools in the New Year.”
