MP encourages businesses to use them
Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday, the Chancellor has announced a £4.6 billion package in new lockdown grants to support businesses and protect jobs. These one-off grants for the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors will enable an estimated 600,000 businesses to apply for grants worth up to £9,000 on a per-property basis. A further £594 million is also being made available for local authorities and the Devolved Administrations to support other businesses ineligible for these grants but which may still be affected by these new restrictions.
John said,
“The Prime Minister has made the correct decision to impose a further lockdown given the rapid spread of this new coronavirus strain, which is much more infectious than the previous strains we have encountered. Faced with this new threat the Government had to act quickly, but it is welcome news that the NHS expects to have given a vaccine dose to everyone in the first four priority groups by the middle of February.”
“The lockdown will present further difficulties for our local businesses. The Chancellor has done the right thing in making further support available, both directly to businesses but also through local authorities. As ever, I would strongly encourage businesses to take maximum advantage of these schemes.”
