MP: Public should have their say

Following an increase in public concerns about dog thefts, especially as discussed on social media, the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners is carrying out a nationwide survey to understand the public’s views on dog thefts, enforcement and prosecution of offenders.

In particular, there is a significant gap between what is being discussed on social media and what is being reported to the Police. In 2019 Essex Police received 65 reports of dog thefts, falling to 60 in 2020. So far this year only five reports have been submitted, which is starkly at odds with public perceptions. Completing the survey will help the Police gauge the true scale of this problem and take steps accordingly.

The 60-second survey is open until Friday, 12th March – please see below for details.

John said,

“I encourage residents to complete this survey, have their say and share their experience on the important issue of dog thefts. I also recommend that residents follow Essex Police’s Dog Watch scheme, which encourages owners and walkers to be the extra eyes and ears in the community.”
