MP: Step Three is major milestone out of lockdown
The Prime Minister has announced that with the ‘Four Tests’ being met, and with deaths and hospitalisations at their lowest levels since July and with the four Chief Medical Officers across the UK agreeing to reduce the Alert Level, England will move to Step Three of the roadmap on schedule on 17th May.
Amongst other things, this will mean that the Rule of Six (or two households) that currently applies outdoors will apply indoors, and outdoor meetings can increase to 30. People will be able to sit inside pubs and restaurants and cinemas, theatres, concert halls, B&Bs and hotels will reopen. Face coverings will no longer be required in school classrooms or communal areas, and all remaining university students will be able to return to in-person teaching.
John said,
“It is excellent news that we can proceed with Step Three on Monday as anticipated, which will be a major milestone on our way out of the lockdown. It will be much more possible to see friends and family again, although we must remember to be sensible when it comes to social distancing, good ventilation and regular hand-washing.”
“I also continue to encourage everyone to get their first and second jabs when the call comes – the vaccinations are really beginning to do the heavy lifting of keeping the virus at bay, and the more of us that are protected the easier this will be. I am looking forward to my second jab.”
