MP says a united front against authoritarianism is important

In his summit summary, the Prime Minister highlighted the important work at the talks on preventing a future pandemic, addressing climate change and supporting worldwide education. This includes pledging more than one billion coronavirus vaccine doses, including 100 million from the UK, to the world’s poorest countries; agreeing to get 40 million more girls into school and 20 million more reading in the next five years; helping the Global Partnership for Education reach half of its five-year fundraising goal, including a £430 million donation from the UK; and agreeing the Carbis Bay Declaration on health, where G7 leaders committed to use their resources to prevent future pandemics; and agreeing a shared agenda for global action on issues such as climate change, economic recovery and jobs.

John said,

“After an understandable hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was good to see G7 leaders meeting each other face to face and reasserting the alliances between the world’s most successful democracies. Maintaining a united front against the growing forces of authoritarianism is important, and the issues discussed at Carbis Bay are a major part of this effort.”
