MP wishes everyone a Happy Independence Day
Five years to the day since the EU referendum, John said,
“Five years ago today the British people voted to leave the EU and regain full control of our country. Though there were some bumps along the way, the Conservatives got Brexit done and we have reclaimed control of our money, laws, waters and sovereignty.”
“We have also implemented a new and fairer points-based immigration system, open to the whole world not just focused on the EU; delivered the fastest vaccine roll-out anywhere in Europe; negotiated free trade agreements with the EU and 68 other countries. This includes our first truly novel trade deal with Australia, and we have just started negotiations to join the Pacific trade bloc.”
“The doom-laden forecasts of the remain campaign have proven to be ill-founded time and time again. Leaving the EU was a very positive decision, and our country’s best days still lie ahead of it. I wish everyone a happy independence day.”
