MP says this will help progress towards Net Zero

The Government has announced today that the UK will end its reliance on coal for electricity generation by October 2024, one year ahead of the existing target. As part of its ongoing decarbonisation plans, coal now accounts for only 1.8% of our electricity generation mix compared to 40% almost a decade ago.

John said,

“I welcome this excellent push towards decarbonisation, in which the UK has made great strides by increasingly switching to renewables for our electricity generation – the last time carbon emissions were this low was in the 1880s, and our economy is many times larger than it was then. Ending our reliance on coal generation will help drive a green industrial revolution and work towards our ‘net zero’ targets.”
