MP: Programme is part of Government’s £3 billion education recovery plan

2,820 secondary schools across England are receiving funding through the £200 million Summer School Programme. 542,710 pupils are expected to attend a face-to-face summer school this year, with around 75% of eligible mainstream secondary schools participating. The summer schools are providing a range of extra-curricular and academic catch-up activities, and this programme is a key part of the Government’s £3 billion education recovery plan. This has also included £1.5 billion spent on national tutoring and £400 million for training and professional development, alongside a £650 million universal catch-up boost for secondary schools this year and a £302 million recovery boost for next year.

In Basildon & Billericay, the following schools will receive a share of the Summer School programme: De La Salle School, Mayflower High School, The Billericay School and the James Hornsby School.

John said,

“The Government’s Summer School Programme will help pupils whose education has been affected by the pandemic – evidence from the Education Endowment Foundation shows that pupils who participate in such programmes can make two months’ additional progress when compared to pupils who don’t attend. These summer schools will also help pupils establish and build friendships before the start of the coming school year, improving their confidence and mental well-being.”
