MP looks forward to Government meeting

In the House of Commons today, John Baron MP helped sponsor a Ten-Minute Rule motion secured by Gareth Bacon MP. The proposals intend to address unauthorised development by making it a criminal offence to carry out development without prior planning permission, and also by making it harder to obtain retrospective planning permission.

John said,

“When developing an area most people play by the rules and seek planning permission in the usual way, but unfortunately some people do not – and gamble that local authorities are unlikely to turn down a retrospective planning application if the development has already taken place. This can cause great distress to residents and is unfair on the majority who do the right thing.”

“The Ten-Minute Rule motion today is a good start to the debate, and I hope Ministers will take on board the points raised in the House of Commons this afternoon and agree to meet those of us who supported today’s motion.”
